Our Mission
The Hillsborough Taxpayers Association (HTA) will educate the public about how we can make Hillsborough affordable for our middle class by holding property taxes down and protecting at-risk property values due to a combination of market forces beyond our control and local zoning and growth decisions that are within our reach.
Ultimately we want to preserve our unique quality of life that made us proud to call Hillsborough home. Government at all levels should spend less or spend smarter so we can keep more of what we earn. The HTA supports shared and/or consolidated services with neighboring communities, where appropriate, to reduce the size, cost, and scope of government.
HTA embraces reforms suggested by the New Jersey Pension and Health Benefit Study Commission so local towns like Hillsborough can sustain themselves for future generations.
HTA supports workforce housing alternatives so that our seniors living on fixed incomes, veterans, first responders, and young families who just can’t afford to buy a house can also call Hillsborough home. It is simply wrong to deny someone who has served our country or paid their fair share in taxes the opportunity to remain in our community just because they want to downsize their home or save up to purchase one. We support "smart" land-use planning for workforce housing in areas of town that will have the least impact on existing neighborhoods -- but near stores and services.
We are not a partisan political organization although we reserve the right to make endorsements in local elections as necessary.
Hillsborough Negotiates Deal To Reduce Affordable Housing Units
The township has reached a settlement that will restructure its affordable housing obligation and reduce the number of affordable housing units to be built by developers.
The settlement with Fair Share Housing means the township will only have to build an additional 195 affordable housing units, beyond those that have already received approval.
